This morning we had to be sharp, have early breakfast, and be ready for the pick up in hotel lobby at 7:45. It was one of the main attractions we were going to go in Vietnam, Halong Bay. The limousine transportation picked us up and some other travellers from other hotels, and so we headed from Hanoi to Halong city harbour, where we entered to the boat.
When the whole group was on board, the trip along the Halong Bay started. While moving slowly forward in the middle of high green and rocky islands, the lunch service started. We got 7 different plates one after another. There were vegetables, fish, chicken, prawns, cannot even remember all that we got, but it was very delicious Vietnamese style food.
After lunch we arrived the place, where we could either paddle with doubble kajacs or step in to the bamboo boat. We chose kajac, of course, and paddled through a very low grotto to see the islands and the monkeys living on those islands. We managed to see the monkeys moving and playing, they even jumped into the water, but didn’t try to come to us. After 30 minutes padeling, we returned to the boat
Next stop was at couple of grottos, smaller and bigger one. There were several groups at the grottos simultaneously, so we were able to move on very slowly. And now it is low season, I cannot imagine how growded the places then are on high season.
When grottoes were left behind, we had one place still to go, and that was beach, where we could spend 40 minutes. On hot weather like today, the only option was to go to swim. It was just refreshing, before sailing back to the harbour. While we were on our way back, we were asked to join the party on upper deck. There were some fruits and snacks as well as drinks serviced, and music was played behind.
After one hour sailing, we were back to Halong city harbour. The limousine transportation took us back to the hotels in Hanoi. We, two happy, but exhausted travellers marched to our room after being away for 12 hours. Next day we will have something else to do.
